Siemens Healthineers Expands Molecular Imaging Capabilities with Key Acquisition

Siemens Healthineers has completed its acquisition of Advanced Accelerator Applications Molecular Imaging from Novartis, enhancing its capabilities in the production and distribution of diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals for positron emission tomography (PET) scans. With the addition of 13 more manufacturing sites in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Germany as well as distribution to Switzerland, the purchase strengthened Siemens' PETNET Solutions network. The company was renamed Advanced Accelerator Applications and is now a Siemens Healthineers business. This expanded footprint addresses the critical need for proximity in delivering PET radiopharmaceuticals, which have short half-lives, ensuring timely and efficient patient care.

PETNET Solutions, a segment of Siemens Healthineers' Molecular Imaging business, operates 47 radio pharmacies worldwide, delivering 1.6 million patient doses annually to over 2,800 imaging centers. The inclusion of Advanced Accelerator Applications' workforce, manufacturing capabilities, and established product portfolio positions Siemens to better meet the rising demand for PET radiodiagnostics, a market valued at $538 million annually and expected to triple by 2033. Siemens Healthineers, a leader in diagnostic innovation, is poised to advance personalized cancer and neurodegenerative treatment options through this acquisition, contributing to its mission of improving access to life-saving therapies for patients globally.
