Medtronic has acquired certain nano surface technology assets developed by Nanovis to enhance its next-generation PEEK interbody fusion devices. The acquisition includes specific intellectual property rights related to Sites Medical's OsteoSync titanium pads. Nanovis' nano surface technology, designated by the FDA for bone growth, improves the biologic fixation of orthopedic, spine, and dental implants through osseointegration, the process where bone fuses with the implant surface. The collaboration aims to provide surgeons with advanced implants that support faster and more consistent bone growth.
Nanovis CEO Brian More expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "Combining our market-leading nano surface technology with Medtronic's market-leading PEEK implant designs will give a growing number of surgeons access to best-in-class devices to treat patients. This collaboration is a testament to the significance of the nano surface technology we developed and the value it delivers to our customers and to patients." Nanovis, known for its nanotube surface technology, focuses on enhancing biologic fixation across various implant applications. The company's technology has received FDA nanotechnology designations for both PEEK interbody devices and pedicle screws. Medtronic's commercial scale and dedication to innovation are expected to accelerate the adoption of Nanovis' technology, benefiting both healthcare providers and patients.
