Inari Medical, Now Stryker, Unveils Artix Thrombectomy System for Arterial Clots

Inari Medical, now part of Stryker, has introduced the Artix Thrombectomy System, a new solution designed to treat peripheral arterial thrombosis. This system combines aspiration and mechanical thrombectomy to improve procedural control and address the limitations of existing treatments. Arterial blood clots in the leg pose serious risks, including limb loss and other complications. Current therapies often fall short due to ineffective clot removal, blood loss, and the risk of vessel trauma. Artix offers a comprehensive approach by allowing physicians to either aspirate or mechanically extract clots, reducing the need for open surgery. On October 19, 2024, Jonathan Bowman performed the first commercial case using the Artix system, describing it as a significant advancement that enhances procedural control and may replace open surgery in many cases.

The Artix system features an over-the-wire mechanical component that effectively collects clots, a low-profile sheath available in two lengths for treating complex cases, and a covered nitinol mesh funnel to reduce the risk of clot migration. This system is designed to remove both acute and chronic clots in a single session. Dr. Tom Tu, Chief Medical Officer of Inari Medical, said, “There is a real clinical need to address chronic thrombi and decrease the risk of clot migration. Artix will raise the bar of effective arterial thrombectomy. We are excited to bring Inari’s core competency in thrombectomy to the arterial space with the goal of improving outcomes.”
