Confluent Medical Technologies has introduced Ultra Polyimide, a newly engineered polyimide tubing that offers nearly twice the strength of conventional polyimide materials. Developed to meet the growing demands of medical device manufacturers, Ultra Polyimide allows for thinner walls without compromising strength, enabling designers to maintain inner lumen space while adding more design features. This innovation supports the development of advanced catheter-based delivery systems and implants, where maintaining strength with minimal material is essential. Jill Ellison, Vice President of Operations at Confluent’s High Precision Polymer Tubing Center, stated, “This advancement enables device designers to reduce material usage while maintaining essential column and tensile strength.”
In addition to its enhanced performance, Ultra Polyimide is produced without using REACH- or EU MDR-restricted solvents includig NMP (N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone), which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recently flagged for health risks in industrial settings. By eliminating these substances from its process, Confluent improves safety for both users and manufacturers and supports long-term regulatory compliance. Ultra Polyimide is now available for medical device companies with lead times of three to four weeks. This launch reflects Confluent’s ongoing work in applying advanced materials science to support the development and production of next-generation medical technologies.
