TJ Parker and Elliot Cohen, the Co-Founders of PillPack, have launched a new digital health venture called General Medicine. After selling PillPack to Amazon in 2018 for approximately $750 million and departing the company in 2022, Parker and Cohen are returning to the healthcare sector with a platform designed to simplify access to medical services. The new company, founded in 2023 and launched publicly in May this year, offers users a marketplace to connect with providers based on specific health needs or symptoms. Patients can use the platform to find specialists, obtain prescriptions, or seek general care. Ashwin Muralidharan, formerly a Technical Adviser to Neil Lindsay, Amazon Health’s top Executive, has also joined the founding team.
General Medicine supports both insurance and cash payments, accepting most major insurers. The service partners with its medical groups, local clinics, specialist networks, and labs to deliver care. The company states its goal is to improve the patient experience in U.S. healthcare by offering accessible and user-friendly services. While Amazon continues its presence in the sector through Amazon Pharmacy and its 2022 acquisition of One Medical, Parker and Cohen are taking a different approach, aiming to apply lessons from e-commerce to healthcare without replicating Amazon’s previous strategies.
