Healthcare operations software provider Symplr has acquired Smart Square, AMN Healthcare’s AI-powered scheduling platform, in a move to expand its workforce optimization tools for hospitals and health systems.
The acquisition strengthens symplr’s operations platform, integrating Smart Square’s predictive analytics, real-time staffing, and open-shift management with symplr’s existing timekeeping and scheduling solutions. “This brings together two Best in KLAS solutions to help hospitals better anticipate staffing needs and optimize care delivery,” said BJ Schaknowski, CEO of Symplr.
AMN will shift its focus toward expanding its WorkWise platform, which includes workforce planning, AI, and analytics. As part of the deal, Symplr and AMN also formed a commercial partnership to align operational technology with workforce services.
"Healthcare organizations are facing workforce complexity like never before," said Cary Grace, President and CEO of AMN. "This partnership helps us deliver complementary strengths to our clients."
Symplr is backed by Clearlake Capital and Charlesbank Capital Partners, and its software is used in 9 out of 10 U.S. hospitals. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
