Noom, a digital healthcare company, has announced an expansion of its Noom Med offerings to include Metformin, an oral medication that can aid in weight loss. Metformin is a common drug used to treat type 2 diabetes. It costs $29 for the first month and then $89 per month after three months of a maintenance plan. It is prescribed off-label to help reduce appetite, improve insulin sensitivity, and stabilize blood sugar levels, which can contribute to weight loss. Noom’s Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Cook, emphasized the integration of medication with behavior change, noting that this combination increases the likelihood of long-term success in weight management.
Metformin will be offered in a 500mg daily tablet form, and Noom doctors will review patients' medical histories to ensure eligibility for the prescription. This offering will be supported by Noom’s comprehensive features, including telehealth, personalized coaching, and medication fulfillment. Noom plans to offer Metformin to new members this month and extend it to existing Noom Weight members in the first quarter of 2025. With its focus on accessibility and affordability, Noom aims to provide a powerful weight loss treatment option that empowers people to make lasting changes and improve their healthspan.
