Teladoc Health Expands AI-Driven Virtual Care Solutions

Teladoc Health, a global leader in virtual care, has unveiled advanced AI-enabled features for its Virtual Sitter solution, aimed at improving patient safety, addressing workforce shortages, and enhancing hospital care delivery. With nearly one million hospitalized patients experiencing falls annually—leading to significant injuries and over $50 billion in medical costs—this solution leverages AI to mitigate risks and optimize care. Using pre-trained algorithms, motion detection, and pose estimation, the technology can visually identify movements that may precede falls, enabling faster interventions by bedside staff. Integrated within Teladoc Health's TV Pro devices, the AI operates locally to enhance Protected Health Information (PHI) security and system efficiency.

The Virtual Sitter solution allows a single remote staff member to monitor 25% more patients, augmenting inpatient team capacity while reducing the workload of bedside staff. This innovation complements Teladoc Health’s broader inpatient-connected care offerings, including virtual nursing, physician consults, and interpretive services, which collectively improve clinician satisfaction and streamline care. Andy Puterbaugh, President of Hospitals and Health Systems at Teladoc Health, emphasized the role of AI in accelerating the company’s impact on care delivery.
