PacBio Unveils Vega Benchtop Sequencing Platform

PacBio has introduced the Vega system, a compact and affordable benchtop sequencing platform designed to expand access to its advanced HiFi long-read sequencing technology. Announced on November 4, 2024, Vega retains the precision and data accuracy of PacBio’s Revio system while offering lower throughput, a faster turnaround, and a reduced price point of $169,000. Designed for targeted sequencing, RNA sequencing, and small genome applications, Vega is compatible with PacBio’s existing HiFi ecosystem, supporting streamlined library preparation and data analysis. The system’s single SMRT cell per run can process up to 9,600 PureTarget samples annually or sequence 200 human genomes, making it ideal for researchers with varied throughput needs.

Vega simplifies sequencing with its integrated workflow, requiring only two consumables and offering onboard computing for ease of operation. To further enhance usability, PacBio provides cloud-based SMRT Link software for seamless instrument management. Researchers worldwide, including leaders at Berry Genomics and GeneDx, have praised Vega's cost-efficiency and versatility in clinical and research settings. PacBio, renowned for its HiFi and SBB sequencing technologies, continues to address complex genetic challenges across diverse fields, including human genetics, microbiology, and oncology. Vega will be available in early 2025, signaling a significant step in democratizing long-read sequencing.
