GE HealthCare announced the launch of its AI Innovation Lab, a strategic initiative designed to drive forward the company’s early-stage AI projects. Aligned with its broader AI and digital strategy, the lab focuses on incorporating AI into medical devices, enhancing diagnostic decision-making, and streamlining healthcare operations. The company's investment in cloud technology provides the necessary computational power to support these innovations on a large scale. Among the Lab’s core projects is Health Companion, an agentic AI initiative that seeks to bring multi-disciplinary expertise directly to clinicians’ fingertips, promoting more personalized patient care. Additionally, the lab supports predictive tools for aggressive cancer types, specifically researching methods to forecast triple-negative breast cancer recurrence in collaboration with Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute.
GE HealthCare is leveraging AI across multiple domains to improve patient care, diagnostics, and healthcare efficiencies. In partnership with Amazon Web Services, the lab is developing a foundation model based on a vast dataset of anonymized X-ray images to automate diagnostic processes and reduce administrative burdens on radiologists. The company is also advancing AI solutions for maternity care, including a fetal heart rate interpretation tool currently under FDA review. With a history of innovation spanning 125 years, GE HealthCare remains committed to enhancing global healthcare accessibility and precision.
