Lenovo Introduces AI Avatar to Support Dementia Patients

Lenovo, in collaboration with Innovations in Dementia, has unveiled "Alzheimer’s Intelligence," a first-of-its-kind AI-driven, photorealistic 3D avatar. This proof-of-concept project provides 24-hour conversational support for individuals and families affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s. The AI avatar, named "Liv," aggregates real-life experiences and insights from people living with the condition, offering accurate, compassionate guidance. The project, designed to be accessible and user-friendly, aims to help individuals recently diagnosed with dementia better understand the disease, navigate daily challenges, and find support. Importantly, the avatar does not provide medical advice but instead offers lived experience insights.

Developed using Lenovo’s comprehensive AI solutions, including ThinkStation P7 servers and ThinkPad laptops, "Liv" employs advanced generative AI technology to create lifelike conversations in real-time. Lenovo worked with its tech partner, Kaleida, to ensure privacy and security in the AI processes. The project, designed in collaboration with Innovations in Dementia and dementia experts, prioritizes responsible use of AI and promotes a positive approach to living with dementia. Currently, the avatar is undergoing trials with dementia patients, with plans for broader availability in the future.
